If you’re an active blogger, you must be heard some of these ‘Social Networking’ and ‘Social Bookmarking’ terms in this web 2.0 world…So basically, Social Networking sites are some kind of sites that people use to create a ‘network’ such friends, business partners, etc. Some sites that categorized as Social Networking sites are Facebook, MySpace, Orkut(byGoogle), Friendster, Multiply, Yuwie, and many many more…
In the other side of web 2.0, there are sites that known as Bookmarking sites, which their main function is as web-based website bookmarking tools. So, Social Bookmarking sites are sites that specialized in bookmarking blogs or any personal interactive websites. It’s main purpose is to connect everyone who have a site (in this case, a blog) with everyone who interested in it’s topic. Sites that categorized into this are Technorati, StumbleUpon, Digg, del.icio.us, and many many more….
A short description on some of the sites mentioned from previous post:
StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon is a site bookmarking tools which allow every of it’s member to add or bookmark or ‘Stumble’ upon websites that he/she like or fave to… StumbleUpon even have it’s browser’s toolbar plugin which can be downloaded from it’s website. This toolbar is very handy when it comes to site bookmarking. It has buttons to rate up or down a website. So if you happen to visit a site and really love that site, you can click the “I like it!” button and rate the site up. If that site haven’t been in their database, you may have the chance to be the first to add that site to StumbleUpon. In short, everyone have a chance to rate or to add any site or webpage. Another very cool feature of StumbleUpon toolbar is that you can click the “Stumble” button and then randomly redirected to one of the webpage that had been added to StumbleUpon….and that means another great site that had been rated up by the others.
The favorite website URLs can then be shared among the members of StumbleUpon. Seems like this bookmarking tools is the best on the net right now (If you do any search on Google, you must be see a StumbleUpon icon next to some of search results on the Google’s Search Engine Result Page. This indicates that the particular web had been bookmarked at StumbleUpon, and is doing advertising with StumbleUpon. For more information on how to do advertising you can visit the website.
So, this is kind of additional rate system for websites, which as an Internet marketer, we should consider to take advantage on…
Twitter
Well…I don’t have an account in Twitter so I don’t really know how it works and what the features are..Some things I know about twitter is that it is one of the fastest growing social networking site, which allow it’s members to create profiles and writing post as frequently as possible. What I mean by as frequently as possible is that from the website, it looks like it’s main feature is focused on trying to encourage it’s members to write a short posts about anything, in a short time range so it appears like an “update’ of their everyday life and activities. Some refer Twitter as a “mini-blog”.
So in my opinion, Twitter is more suitable for people who loves write small things or updates or ‘news’ regarding their life or businesses. That’s why Twitter is one of the best tools to keep in touch with everyone. Looks like Twitter is trying it’s best to expand it’s functionality, compatibility, and mobility…
Technorati
Technorati is one of the biggest and oldest bookmarking site these days and it provides a wide range tools to embed to your website so that everyone who visit your blog can bookmark it to Technorati. The more your blog bookmarked by other people, the more ‘authority’ you’ll gain in technorati’s blogsphere as a dedicated blogger. It works also like kind of rating system. The more authority you have, the more people will trust and like to read your blog.
The difference with some other bookmarking sites is that you can only add blogs to Technorati. So, if you’re a blog reader and want to search some topic written on blogs or some great themed blogs, you may use technorati as a search engine specialized in searching blogs. If you’re a blogger, then you may want to add your blog to Technorati since it is one of the largest blog network.
MyBlogLog
MyBlogLog is a little ‘twist’ to Social Networking sites which owned by Yahoo. It’s main feature that combine Social Bookmarking and Social Networking Site has successfully attract many bloggers to create an account there. Some of the cool feature from MyBlogLog are you may create a ‘widget’ in your blogging platform that shows avatars from other MyBlogLog members who read your blog. It forms some kind of ‘connection’ with your ‘community’ or ‘fans’.
The other thing is from your account, you may list most of your other social networking and bookmarking accounts and create links to them. All from that one ‘portal’. If you’re an active and very ‘Social’ individual, I think MyBlogLog is the best thing you may want to sign up to. So everyone who happen to see you MyBlogLog profile, they’ll have access to every other services you had joined to and be a part of. That way you can ‘connect’ all your ‘social sites’ and profiles in real-time.
So, if you like this blog, you may subscribe this site to some of the social bookmarking and networking sites. You can do this simply by clicking on the upper right corner and click drop down subscribe button and choose services that you’ve joined to. To rate this site at StumbleUpon, please click the “Stumble it!” link on the top upper-right corner.
Or, you may bookmark a particular post by clicking on Share/Save drop-down button at the bottom of every post. Doing that will add/bookmark that particular post to any services you choose from the drop down menu. You may expand the menu by clicking on the downward arrow after first clicking the Share/Save button.
By bookmarking that page, you’re practically share that page to any of those services which will bring this blog to unimaginable amount of ways to be seen by others who join those networks. This practice is also known as ‘viral’….
